Copper gutters are a classic finishing touch on New England colonials, Victorians and historic homes. They start with a bright metallic shine, slowly turn a warm brown and, over many years outdoors, can develop the blue-green patina copper is known for.
Copper is heavier and more durable than aluminum, does not rust and does not need painting. It is a premium material that requires careful handling: joints are soldered, hangers and fasteners should be copper or compatible metals, and it should not be mixed with aluminum or galvanized steel parts.
Well-installed copper gutters can last for many decades, often outliving other gutter materials.
Copper weathers naturally over time, adding character that suits traditional homes.
Copper never needs paint and will not rust or peel like coated materials.
A premium detail that boosts curb appeal on historic and high-end homes.
The traditional rounded profile, ideal for historic and colonial architecture.
A decorative ogee profile with a higher capacity, popular on newer homes.
Smooth or corrugated round copper leaders to match half-round gutters.
Visible copper hangers and brackets that become part of the design.
Ornamental collector boxes at the top of downspouts for a custom look.
Copper flashing and bay window or entry roofs to complete the look.
We check your roof edge, fascia, existing gutters and where water drains, then give you a clear written estimate.
We size gutters and downspouts for your roof area, plan the pitch and choose discharge points away from the foundation.
Gutters are formed and hung with hidden hangers, sealed at miters and end caps, and connected to properly placed downspouts.
We run water through the system to confirm flow, clean up the job site and walk the finished work with you.
Copper is a premium material and typically costs several times more than aluminum. Many homeowners choose it for its look and longevity, or use copper only on the front of the home or on accent roofs.
Copper naturally darkens to brown within months and, depending on the environment, can slowly develop a green patina over many years. If you prefer to keep the bright finish, it can be cleaned and sealed periodically.
We do not recommend it. Copper in contact with aluminum or galvanized steel causes galvanic corrosion of the other metal. We use copper or compatible parts throughout the system.
Runoff from copper can leave blue-green stains on light-colored surfaces below. We plan downspout locations and discharge points to minimize staining.
